- The Secretary of State for Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, announced today that the Government will approve this year the first Business Innovation Strategy for Galicia, which will mobilise 400 million euros and aims to “consolidate a growth model for the entire Galician economy”.
- Lorenzana spoke today at the II Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum organised by the APD, where she pointed out that this strategy seeks to link Galicia’s innovation ecosystem with industry. “That R&D&i truly transforms Galician companies; that this formula results in new business projects that endure over time and help transform the economy”.
- As she said, it is born “absolutely connected” with the I+G+i brand and with the triple objective of “making innovation have impact” so that “the companies that are already here can grow and strengthen; the ones that are outside set their sights on our territory; and so that those that are born in Galicia can become in the future major companies”, she added.
- “We are clear that businesses in Galicia must gain scale and therefore need all possible innovative tools”, she assured, and highlighted: “We need them to incorporate artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, that knowledge transfer be increasingly fast and that with this startups find here more opportunities to collaborate with industry”.
- Lorenzana underscored the data from the Informe Empresas Tech Galicia 2026, which confirms that Galicia already has 534 technological and innovative companies, which generate more than 5,700 qualified jobs and revenue close to 550 million euros. In this vein, she thanked the work of the entire network of accelerators that the Government has under its brand and of the many entities that collaborate with the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape) in its development.
- “The success of an innovative ecosystem is not measured only by the number of startups it creates; it is measured by its capacity to transform the whole economy”, she reiterated, to conclude by highlighting the importance of administrations knowing how to anticipate, be prepared and “be the economic engine of the advances that are taking place”, because that is what makes a territory competitive.
